1st Annual
Chesapeake Upcycled Art Festival 2012!

So, what is Upcycled and how is it
 different from recycled?

From jewelry to home decor, upcycled art is the newest eco-friendly trend!

Upcycling means taking discarded items which would normally end up in a land fill and finding a new use for them. It is distinct from recycling. It's not taking disgarded plastic bottles and melting them down and turned into park benches or newspaper pulp that gets turned into environmentally friendly paper toweling. That is recycling.

Upcycling does not involve changing the original items into a new form, well sort of...

It means giving them a new lease on life by upgrading them to another purpose entirely than that for which they were created:

Sea glass shards made into jewelry or art

Glass & Pottery Mosaic art

Driftwood turned into home decor

and More!

The Upcycled Art Festival Maryland will feature local Maryland artisans,

whom create gorgeous and functional art!

Below is a list of some of the artisans whom will be
at the festival to showcase and sell their beautiful
upcycled art, jewelry and home decor:

Mermaid Sea Glass

Spirit of the Sea Glass

By the Bay Sea Glass

Chesapeake Bay Sea Glass Creatures

Chesapeake Eye Candy

By the Bay Creations

Simply Plated

and more to come!

We also believe in giving back to the community and
to making it a better place to visit, work, live and thrive!

So, donations are also being collected
 while attending the festival,

with proceeds to benefit two
local Eastern Shore non-profit institutions:

Tilghman Waterman's Museum
Donations will help build the new Tilghman Island Waterman's Museum.
The museum is a non-profit community-based endeavor designed to
commemorate the work of generations of Tilghman's Island watermen
and
their families and others who supported them, and to strengthen

the Island community by establishing a new institution
centered on heritage-related activities.

Halo's Haven Rescue

Halo’s Haven Rescue is a not-for-profit equine rescue dedicated to saving the
lives of equines that have been put up for slaughter or otherwise neglected.
Our mission is to save, rehabilitate, and advocate for equines in need, and give
them the opportunity to have a loving home for the remainder of their lives.

Halo’s Haven seeks to educate the general public on the realities of the
horse slaughter industry in order to make a lasting impact on the number of horses
placed for slaughter or in other neglectful circumstances. It is our belief that,
through education and increased public awareness, the lives of American equines
can and will be substantially improved.

Halo’s Haven Rescue is dedicated to saving the lives of all animals suffering from neglect.
In addition to equines, we serve as a forever home to many dogs and cats.

So, mark your calendars and check back often for
more information as the event gets closer.
